Questions & Answers

Information for Donators:

Question: I just donated money, but “What is PCOS”?
A: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a health problem that can affect a woman’s menstrual cycle, fertility, hormones, insulin production, heart, blood vessels, and appearance. Do you know a woman who has to shave her face at least once a day? Can you imagine going through this? Contact us today to add someone to the fund.

Question: Will I receive a receipt if I decide to donate? Is the donation tax-deductible?
A: At this time, we have not established a non profit organization for this fund yet. As soon as that happens, all donations will get an automatic receipt generated. For now, please accept the PayPal email as a ‘thank you’. We should have an updated status in a day or two Iy”h.

Information for the PCOS Patient:

Question: Do patients do one area at a time or do they do the whole face at once?
A: since it goes very fast, the whole face is done in about 10 minutes maximum so patients do the entire face at once.

Question: What else should I know about this procedure?
A: After the treatment, you will notice some hair re-growth (most or some) in the next few days. Those are dead hairs and it’s only the leftover dead hair and follicles which will show. Simply shave it off. After 6 weeks, return for the next session.

Question: what do I need to know before coming to the office for laser treatment?
A: you should apply a cream called EMLA to numb the area. It is inexpensive and can be purchased all over. This cream should be applied 2 to 3 hours before the laser treatment. Apply liberally to the entire are, then WRAP up the area with plastic wrap to allow the follicles to absorb it. don’t forget o allow yourself a hole to breathe from (no kidding!). When it’s time for your appointment, walk in and tell the receptionist ‘I’m here for my laser treatment’ and then go the bathroom and wash off the cream. You will then be ready for the treatment. You have a choice of sitting up or lying down, you should be as comfortable as possible. Most patients report zero pain.

Before the laser treatment, do not do any electrolysis or waxing or any other treatment. Those treatments kill the follicles, which must be alive for the laser to kill them permanently. Only shaving is permitted. If you do any of those treatments, you must wait 6 weeks before coming for laser treatment.

Question: how do hormones and future pregnancies affect the hair growth?
A: most patients will not see any re-growth even after a pregnancy however we cannot guarantee that in some cases, the hormones can go out of whack and cause regrowth on the areas that were already permanently removed. We can only hope for the best.

Question: how many treatments will I need for my face which is growing a lot of hair due to PCOS? I shave once or twice a day and it is thick coarse black hair.
A: many PCOS patients have had their dignity restored with the laser treatments. This usually requires multiple visits to our office. About 8 – 10 visits is necessary.

Question: one more question. How am I supposed to arrive to the appointment with cream and plastic wrap on my face?
A: there is no need to apply it in the office and wait out the 2 – 3 hours. You should apply the cream and be happy to arrive to our office because if you think about the future, you will not worry about how you look now! Good luck and may you have a successful outcome!
